Teaching Students w/ Injuries
A Comprehensive Approach to Revolutionize your Teaching
Have you felt that sinking moment when a student walks into class and whispers to you, "Just so you know, I have an injury"… And your mind races: What should I change? Can they still do this flow? What if I make it worse?
I’ve been there too. That flash of hesitation doesn’t mean you’re unprepared, it means deep down you care.
This mentorship was created for teachers who want to move beyond that moment of uncertainty. For those who want to walk into class grounded, confident, and ready to support every student, including the ones w/ pain.
Teaching students with injuries isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about understanding how the body and nervous system work together, so you can guide with confidence and compassion instead of fear.
Most yoga teacher trainings skip over the essentials...
Ever find yourself after you finish cueing a sequence, and you glance around the room, and notice a student in the corner hesitating, holding their breath, clenching their teeth, and their body looks tense? You know that look. It's the one that says something deeper is happening beneath the surface. Maybe pain. Maybe fear. Maybe an old story their body hasn’t let go of.
And in that moment, you wonder: Am I really guiding this student safely?
You’re not alone in that thought.
Most yoga teacher trainings don’t teach what to do in moments like this. The anatomy, the nervous system connection, or how to support students navigating pain without overstepping your scope of practice.
That’s why this mentorship exists: so you can stop guessing and start teachinging with clarity and care.
You walk away knowing how to put it all together!
This mentorship isn’t about memorizing muscles or collecting more information. It’s about outcomes. By the end of our time together, you'll learn to:
- Recognize how pain and injury affect both the body and the nervous system
- See beyond “fixing” and instead support the student’s experience with empathy and awareness
- Design intelligent, flexible sequences that feel safe, inclusive, and responsive
- Offer modifications that empower rather than isolate
- Guide recovery and rest practices that restore connection to the body
But more than what you’ll learn, it’s about who you’ll become:
   * A teacher who creates safety in every class.
   * A teacher who doesn’t freeze when students w/ pain & injuries come to your classes.
   * A teacher who can hold space for uncertainty, with both knowledge, understanding, and compassion.
Anatomy Refresh
- Reconnect with anatomy in a way that’s real, not textbook. You’ll revisit the key systems and structures through movement, touch, and observation, so your understanding of the body feels alive and relevant to your classes again.
Understanding Pain
- Pain isn’t a problem to solve, it’s an experience to understand. You’ll learn how pain actually works, why it doesn’t always mean damage, and how to teach from a place of curiosity and care instead of fear or correction.
The Nervous System
- Discover how stress, safety, and movement intertwine. Explore regulation, functional freeze, and how the body’s protective responses show up on the mat, so you can recognize and respond with steadiness and compassion. We'll go beyond the understanding of the parasympathetic & sympathetic sides of the NS.
Injuries
- Go beyond “avoid this pose” advice. You’ll unpack what’s actually happening in common injuries, how healing unfolds, and how to teach with awareness instead of avoidance.
- Practical, step-by-step formula for talking with students, get more information from them, and how to work with them and their healthcare professionals.
Sequencing
- Design classes that meet your students where they are. You’ll learn to build sequences that adapt to a range of needs (strong but supportive, structured but fluid), so no one feels left behind.
Recovery Strategies
- Integrate practices that help the body and nervous system settle. You’ll explore restorative, yin, and Yoga Nidra-inspired tools that encourage deep rest and healing, not just for your students, but for you, as well.
- Learn how to shift at a moment's notice and feel confident in your class plan. Plus, learn ways to incorporate a number of recovery strategies while being mindful of the injury and pain levels. Â
Ready to Teach with Confidence and Compassion?
You don’t need to know everything about injuries to support your students, you just need to begin with understanding.
This mentorship was created for yoga teachers who care deeply about their students but sometimes feel unsure of what to do when a student w/ pain or injury come to class. It’s for the teacher who’s ready to replace hesitation with confidence, and to lead from both knowledge and empathy.
By the end, you’ll not only understand pain, anatomy, and the nervous system, you’ll understand how to read your students’ bodies in real time, respond with clarity, and create classes that feel safe, inclusive, and deeply healing.

Carolyn
I've been wanting to learn more about about injuries because I freeze anytime an injured student comes to class. I found Monica online and I'm so glad I did. I love giving assists in class and have learned which ones might not be that great for an injured student.Â
Dana
Monica, you have taught me information that I've been searching for for so many years. The way you explain concepts makes sense & I can easily apply it when I'm teaching. I have enjoyed working with you so much!
Jocelyn
I had no idea where to start but I knew I wanted to learn more about anatomy. Then I started working with Monica and she has given me clear direction and now I feel more confident when I'm learning more anatomy. She taught me how to teach myself and supported me whenever I felt unsure or confused.

I feel supported to ask questions whenever I need to during our one-on-one sessions. I feel heard. Also, through the Slack platform, I can easily reach out to Monica with questions.
