Teaching Students w/ Injuries
A Six-Month Mentorship That Gives You a Framework for Working Confidently with Every Student Who Comes to Class with Pain
There is a moment every yoga teacher knows.
A student walks in just before class, and tells you, "Just so you know, I have an injury." And for a few seconds, your mind races. You think about the sequence you planned. You wonder whether to ask more questions and worry about what those questions might reveal. You think about the modification you might offer and hope it’s helpful.
That moment is not a sign that you are unprepared. It is a sign that you care about your students.
This mentorship was built for that moment. Not to give you a list of modifications to memorize. To give you a framework so that the next time one of your students is in pain, you are not guessing and hoping. You are thinking clearly and moving with intention.
THEÂ PROBLEM WITH HOW YOGA TEACHERS LEARN...
Most yoga teacher trainings do a reasonable job of teaching you what to know.
They cover anatomy, alignment, modifications, contraindications. They tell you to stay in your scope of practice. Some of them even touch on common injuries.
What they almost never teach you is what to do with any of it.
So you graduate knowing that hamstring tendinopathy exists. You know the name. You might even know where the hamstring attaches. But when a student tells you their hamstring has been bothering them for six months and they are not sure if they should still be doing forward folds, you’re still not sure. Because knowing a thing and knowing how to apply that knowledge to a real person in a real moment are completely different skills, and most trainings only teach you the first one.
This mentorship teaches you the second.
INTRODUCING THE APPLIED INJURYÂ METHOD.
Most trainings teach you what to know. This mentorship teaches you what to do with it.
The Applied Injury Method is the methodology at the heart of this mentorship. It is built on a single principle: the best way to learn how to work with any injured student is to work deeply with one real student from your own teaching life.
From the moment you join, you choose a real student. Someone you are currently working with or have worked with in the past. Someone navigating pain, an injury, or a physical limitation. This student becomes your case study for the entire six months.
As we move through the curriculum together, you are not practicing on hypothetical scenarios. You are applying every concept directly to a real person you already know. You learn about tendon injuries and immediately apply that understanding to your student's experience. You study pain science and recognize what your student has been telling you for months. You explore nervous system responses and see the patterns you have already noticed in class in a completely new way.
This is how information becomes understanding. This is how understanding becomes something you can actually implement.
And because you are learning principles rather than protocols, everything you build through your one student transfers to every student you will ever teach. A tendon is a tendon. Pain science does not change based on which body it occurs in. The conversations you learn to have will work with any student who ever comes to your class with an injury.
One student. Six months. A framework that can be implemented for the entirety of your teaching career.
LEARN HOW TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER!
WHO IS THIS FOR?
This mentorship is for the yoga teacher who has completed their 200-hour training and knows that training prepared them to teach yoga, but not to apply that teaching to the full range of your student’s pain experience and injury history.Â
It is for the teacher who is tired of knowing things they cannot use. Who wants to walk into class with a framework, not just a hope. Who takes their students' wellbeing seriously enough to keep learning, and who is ready to do the work of integrating that learning in real time.
It is not for teachers looking for a quick reference list or a set of scripts to memorize. It is for teachers who are ready to understand the why behind what they do, so that whenever a student comes to your class you have a framework to draw from rather than a protocol to search for.
If you have ever thought, "I wish my training had taught me what to actually do with all of this," you are exactly who this mentorship was built for.Â
HOW WE WORK TOGETHER
Twice a month, we come together live on Zoom. Part masterclass, part collaborative working session. You bring your case study, your questions, and the real scenarios from your teaching week. We study together, workshop what is in front of us, and you leave each call with something you can use in your next class.
All sessions are recorded, so you never miss a call. Pre-recorded course materials are available any time, at the pace that works for your life.
You join and I meet you where you are in the curriculum.
WHAT YOU LEAVE KNOWING
By the end of six months, you have more than knowledge. You have a framework you built yourself through direct application to a real student in your real teaching life.
You will know how to sequence intelligently for students at different stages of recovery. You will know how to have a conversation with an injured student that gathers real information, builds trust, and gives you what you need to make a good decision. You will understand how pain actually works and why it does not always mean damage. You will recognize nervous system responses in real time. You will have recovery strategies you can pull from in a group class or a private session without hesitation.
And when a student tells you about an injury (or condition) you’ve never heard of before, you will not reach for a memorized answer. You will use your framework to think & talk it through with your student. That is the difference between knowing and being able to implement.
Most importantly, you will become a teacher who feels confident when a student shares something you’re uncertain about. Who leads from knowledge, education, and thoughtfulness, because you will finally have the skills to do so.
THE RESULTS...
✨You’ll teach from a place of calm, clarity, and confidence.
✨You will stop guessing and start doing.
✨You’ll become the teacher students trust when their bodies need the most care.

Teacher Experiences:
Carolyn
I've been wanting to learn more about about injuries because I freeze anytime an injured student comes to class. I found Monica online and I'm so glad I did. I love giving assists in class and have learned which ones might not be that great for an injured student.Â
Dana
Monica, you have taught me information that I've been searching for for so many years. The way you explain concepts makes sense & I can easily apply it when I'm teaching. I have enjoyed working with you so much!
Jocelyn
I had no idea where to start but I knew I wanted to learn more about anatomy. Then I started working with Monica and she has given me clear direction and now I feel more confident when I'm learning more anatomy. She taught me how to teach myself and supported me whenever I felt unsure or confused.
Marjorie
Terresa
I feel supported to ask questions whenever I need to during our one-on-one sessions. I feel heard. Also, through the Slack platform, I can easily reach out to Monica with questions.
