Episode 134: HOW A STUDENT'S NEUTRAL ALIGNMENT SHOULD AFFECT THE CUES YOU USE

Most of us inherited our cueing vocabulary from the teachers who trained us, and many of those cues have been repeated with so much confidence and so often that they feel like they're factually and anatomically correct. But when you actually examine the anatomy underneath the cues, a different picture begins to emerge. Neutral alignment is different in every student and is not a single position that every body can, or should, achieve. It is individual, shaped by each student's unique skeletal structure, movement history, and tissue patterns. This episode breaks down three of the most commonly used alignment cues in yoga classes, what the anatomy actually tells us about them, and what to cue instead.

  • Where Yoga Cues Come From
  •  Why "Tuck Your Tailbone" Doesn't Work for Every Student's Pelvis
  • Why "Square Your Hips" Depends on Hip Socket Anatomy & What It Actually Allows
  •  Why Asking Students to Create A "Flat Spine" Is Not Anatomically Correct
  • What to Say Instead
